Andreas Mattsson to join Essity as general counsel in 2027

Andreas Mattsson (pictured) will join Essity – Swedish multinational company specializing in hygiene and health products headquartered in Stockholm – as General Counsel at the beginning of 2027, moving to the global hygiene and health company after almost 14 years at Billerud.

Mattsson has served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Billerud since 2013, with his responsibilities expanding in 2024 to include strategic projects. During his time with the company, he has led its global legal and compliance function, with a focus on corporate governance, M&A, compliance, capital markets regulation and commercial contracts.

Before moving in-house, Mattsson spent more than seven years at Swedish law firm Cederquist, where he worked on M&A, equity capital markets and corporate matters. During that period, he also completed a nine-month secondment at Skadden in New York, focusing on cross-border M&A.

Announcing the move on Linkedin, Mattsson said he will remain focused on his responsibilities at Billerud and on ensuring an orderly handover for the remainder of 2026, before taking up his new role at Essity in early 2027.
