Dublin-based Prothena names Michael Isaacs as general counsel

Biotech company Prothena, based in Dublin, has appointed Michael Isaacs (pictured) as its next general counsel, replacing Michael Malecek, who is stepping down. Isaacs, currently deputy GC, will assume the role in June.

The company, which focuses on treatments for neurodegenerative diseases linked to protein dysregulation, is also promoting Annie Kingston from vice president of corporate strategy to chief strategy officer, taking over responsibilities previously held by CFO Tran Nguyen.

CEO Gene Kinney expressed confidence in both appointments, noting their strong contributions and readiness to take on expanded roles. He also thanked Malecek for his leadership and for ensuring a smooth transition.

Isaacs joined Prothena in 2020 and became deputy GC in 2023, after working at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer. Malecek, who joined in 2019 from Snowflake, also previously worked at the same law firm and held several senior legal roles across the biotech and legal sectors.
